I'm not totally unsympathetic to the woman. But I wonder how well that porn blocker is working on her home computer. And I think her daughter is eventually gonna see a pole dancing infomercial on the TV.

There is no right or wrong answer about how much chaos and sleaze we are going to tolerate. I happen to come down on the more tolerant end of the spectrum, I like a lot of color and freedom. I draw the line at beaver shots on the sides of city buses. And probably people shouldn't be able to run junkyards in residential areas, even rednecks.

I'd say it oughta be taken down because it's false advertising. There ain't no women in there that look like that mural.

EXCELLENT! I do hope that officers of the city will move to stamp-out all other exhibitions of excessive expression. God is great!

Isn't this on a building that's still in the Town of Madison?

Maybe Visions should paint a bra on the woman in the picture. Would that help? It could be bright red. We have graffiti artists in town who might have even better ideas.

I can't believe this couldn't have been dealt with in a more reasonable manner and I'm chalking it up to alder inexperience. It's the guy's first term.

Thinking about this a little longer, if it was up to me I'd paint over the "pedophile's dream" mural on the wall of the east Willy St Coop long before I'd get upset about some goofy cartoon on the side of Visions.

I totally hate that mural. Fortunately I think they're remodeling soon, and with any luck painting the outside will be on the list.

The city does not allow signs to be directly painted on a building.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the problem. Overly-controlling instincts, too many damn rules that narrowly define what can be tolerated.

Again, it's a matter of choosing limits. I don't support graffiti artists painting-up bus stops. Or junk cars rotting on front lawns. But homes and businesses sure should be given wide latitude in adding artwork to their buildings.

Drats. It lies in Free Territory, outside the reach of our magistrates.

I've long been troubled by this exploitation of the morbidly obese. But looking closely, I see there is also some promotional artwork directly on the wall.
Unfortunately, Monona Drive too is just outside the control of our apparatchiks.

Visions had to paint over their artwork.

I know of churches that had to remove very unobtrusive signage because it did not meet one standard or another. So The railing should probably be about over-regulation vs. content.

A kid isn't going to think there's anything particularly interesting to ask about that artwork, which is why I think it's kind of a stupid issue. My kid (1980s childhood) would have just figured it was a teenager swinging on a tether ball pole.

Which brings me to this: I don't see a lot of tether ball poles at parks any more. It used to be a big deal when I was a kid. When my daughter was growing up, parents were already lobbying for them to be taken down. Too many smashed faces, I guess. But now I wonder if some parents would think they were stripper poles.

Ya, I believe that the city did not want to get involved in judging content. Somebody complained, so they couldn't ignore it. The rule is too strict, by my own preferred balance of freedom and public order.

I was told that tether ball went away because we're known to get strangled by the rope. No idea if that was a myth invented by my own parents though.

Did anybody actually play with the tether ball? It was the dumbest, most annoying device on the playground. Far better to spend the entire recess hanging by your knees on the monkey bars looking at everything upside-down.
