Aluminum strip and refin in Madison?

Postby jammybastard » Fri Jan 04, 2013 1:41 pm

Anyone know where I can get some aluminum stripped and refinished in Madison?
Nothing huge, piece of art, but I need it done by a pro.
Body shop?
Lemme know!

I would think you're right about a body shop unless sandblasting would possibly harm your item. If it's paint that's coming off, a furniture refinisher could probably dip it in a tank of stripper for you. Maybe try that guy by the Barrymore, if anybody is still alive in there.

I was thinking his choice might depend on what kind of new finish he wanted on the item. Automotive paint? A powder coating? Anodizing? Clear coat? Maybe decide that first and work backward to find someone who does it.

Here's a video of a guy doing a home-refinish job on some sort of architectural aluminum, if that helps any. You might want to read the safety precautions on the product labels carefully, but it seems to turn out pretty well:

And here's a discussion of refinishing aluminum when it's parts on a motorcycle. Might have info you can use, and these guys got beautiful results:
