Transitional uses for Union Corners

Postby narcoleptish » Wed Apr 20, 2011 12:14 pm

Perusing the list of ideas from the SASYNA meeting about Union Corners is fun. I love my neighbors and much prefer the eclectic vibe here than a lot of the alternatives, but there is some goofy shit on there.

link is at #5 on the list on this page http://www.sasyna.org/index.php/solstic ... ional-use/

Sorry for my sorry linkage skills

Personal faves:

Giant coffee cart
Bat house workshops
bird watching and/or hunting
Community hammocks
safe tent city
archery range

one said simply "icecream"

I kinda like the temporary drive-in theater

Plant lots of flowers. I suggest a big field of poppies. Gozer would like that.

OMG those were some awful suggestions. One of my favorites is:

Community rail station

So were going to use this "transitional space" for the imaginary trains that come through.

Coffee shop? Really? I guess we don't have enough in that area. Seriously, was everyone drunk who gave suggestions.

The staff at the Malt House told me (and no, I wasn't one of the brainstormers at the neighborhood meeting) that the huge pile of crushed rocks that's appeared at Union Corners is from Willy Street deconstruction, and that the city plans to grind it up on that site for recycling. So it appears that the city has already come up with a transitional use for Union Corners -- asphalt mill. What's next, burning tires?

They could make it like a giant campfire. Everyone bring your drums and didgeridoos. No need for drugs, just huff the tire smoke.

The city better hurry up. I've been orchestrating a reverse-Andy Dufresne, squirreling away a couple rocks a day, to build my own rock pile at home. By my calculations, the job should be complete by 2063, just in time for the city to decide what it wants to do with Union Corners.

I liked the Malt House beer fest idea. Another favorite was "tethered hot air balloon". Who wouldn't love having one of those around?

Thanks for the link, gutc. I live close by, but didn't get the memo. Now there's a fence and signage, and a rapidly growing rock pile (you have your work cut out for you, O.J.).

I can truthfully tell people for awhile at least that I live in the neighborhood by Willy Street -- that'll up my nonexistent hipness-factor. Just keep that bad asphalt dust outta the craft beer, please. Summer is too short in the beer garden.

Don't think of it as a rock pile, think of it as a reverse quarry.

So, the noisiest beer garden in town will get even louder?

I do hope the green, eco-friendly reverse quarry won't obstruct our view of the Red Letter News.
