Why is the tornado siren going off?

Postby Shorty » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:24 pm

I'm wondering why is the tornado siren going off in Madison now? Nothing in the news shows a tornado near Dane co. Is it to warn us about Sarah Palin coming Sat? Or is Japan radiation making it unsafe to go outside?

There's a test.

I don't know where I heard it but this one is testing something or other in the statewide system. It's a very special test.

Thanks but how is the public supposed to know special tests from the real thing? Now next time I hear it, I will wonder if it's just a test while the roof is blown away above me.

I think you're supposed to respond to every test as if it's the real thing, not vice versa, Shorty.

So you usually find yourself in a basement with a radio and flashlight at noon on the first Wednesday of every month during summer?

Why would they issue a test at a time other than that regular time slot? I would think more false warnings at odd times would mean that the real thing wouldn't be taken as seriously.

If it's not Wednesday at noon AND I don't already know there's some sort of special test, I go outside and look around to see if I can spot any godless tornadoes.

If I don't see any I go back about my business because I know those sirens go off in a huge area and there might indeed be a tornado someplace within driving distance, but not here.

According to WPR's story this morning this was supposed to be a state-wide tornado drill, not the usual Wednesday emergency alert test.

I guess if you hear it, look out the window, and the sky is merely overcast, chances are it's a test. Tornadoes don't just spring up out of nowhere.

Whenever I hear a tornado siren, the first thing I do is go outside. If a tornado is gonna rip down my house, I at least want to see what it looks like.

Taxpayer-funded tornado sirens are a socialist entitlement!
It's time people were weaned off of their dependency mentality and went to a faith-based warning system.
