From WSJ; State spots get high marks from AAA
For the 26th straight year, the American Club in Kohler has maintained its Five Diamond rating awarded by the American Automobile Association. It is the only AAA Five Diamond property in the state.
Four other lodgings earned Four Diamond ratings, including the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, which has been so designated for 35 years. The Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva and the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake each have garnered Four Diamonds for 13 straight years. Wisconsin’s other Four Diamond lodging is the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, which earned the mark for a second straight year.
In addition to the high-rated accommodations, four restaurants in the state earned Four Diamond ratings from AAA. Three are in Milwaukee: the Sanford Restaurant (17 years), Dream Dance Steak (8 years) and Bacchus (3 years). The other AAA Four Diamond dining spot, so rated for 23 years, is the Immigrant Restaurant & Winery in Kohler.
AAA evaluated 59,000 hotels and restaurants nationwide, with 0.3 percent earning Five Diamond status and 3.6 percent getting Four Diamonds. The ratings are based on unannounced visits scrutinizing comfort, cleanliness, ambiance and service.
