Jupiter is closer than usual. On a clear night after twilight look in the Eastern sky and you can see Jupiter. It will look like a big star and will be the biggest object in the sky after the moon. Not sure how long this will last.

Look at it through good binoculars and it's shaped like a gibbous moon. I haven't been able to spot its own moons that way yet, though I have seen Saturn's moons in the past using binoculars.

snoqueen, I miss your virtual personality. Who else uses the word gibbous?!
