Sure signs of spring

Postby Henry Vilas » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:02 pm

I've seen my first evidence that winter is ending. The snow on the driveway side of my house is melting away and the early daffodils are starting to poke through the leaf litter. Crocus next, but the rabbits always eat them.

First chipmunk of the year to try and dash under my wheels as I rode the bike path this AM.

LOTS of birds singing too.

I can't wait 'til I only need two layers of clothes for my ride.

I heard sandhill cranes fly over my house, and plenty of geese.

Vole tracks through the yard. Fuckers.

And dead lawn spots from my dog's pee.

Skateboarders on State Street for me.

And it is Krokus, for Satan's sake.

I spotted four cranes near the Pheasant Branch Preserve this afternoon. The first outdoor Farmer's Market is just a little over a month away.

The Cubs are playing baseball (albeit in Arizona) and yet I haven't yet nearly lost the will to live.

Both neighbors' yards are full of thawing piles of big-dog shit. Looks like a friggin' delicatessen.

My crane count is 2: one over my house, another in Oregon.

These charming ladies wouldn't be your neighbors, would they?

While that would be amusing to observe third-party, I'd be very concerned about collateral damage. Blowback, if you will. So no, thank god, they're not my neighbors.

A friend of mine spotted three robins in Sun Prairie. I heard the song today. Cheerio!
