Maybe you should use the self check out just to be safe, those Woodman's employees probably don't get payed enough to deal with wallet explosions.

another attack on the bike path...

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/crime_and_courts/article_b2d3d508-38eb-11df-bbab-001cc4c002e0.html

i ride this path at least 10 times a week and hate that feeling i get when i turn the corner before/after the goodman community center; incidents like this remind me why.

guess it's back to atwood or oakridge...

I know who that guy is, super nice guy who I doubt did or said anything to deserve that. Welcome to spring everybody.

Re: that last crime, I think it's scarier that the kids didn't try to rob the guy. The article makes it sound like they were just wanted to beat someone up for the thrill.

I have always used a "throw-away wallet' Has an old DL, library card, some metro ride passes from when i was down on my luck, plus a ten dollar bill with the serial # written on a piece of paper in my real wallet. In the all the years I have been roaming around town I have only had to use it twice.. Throw the wallet one way, run the other. They always go after it and they both were caught with the wallet, id's and money on their person. It dosen't explode, but works to give you some time to get away and call the cops. I still have the same one with the same id's in it ... kind of like my robbery talisman.

In Madison, twice seems like a lot. The fake wallet is a good idea, glad it's worked for you. Unfortunately, like towanda said, a simple beating seems to be the motivation in this latest one. Seven against one is such an admirable display of masculinity.

Indeed. Robbery is at least comprehensible. Beating the snot out of someone because you can is a bit too Clockwork Orange.

Is that better or worse than a butt slapper?

A common M.O. to these muggings seems to be that they ask you for a cigarette or the time and then punch you in the head.

Takeaways:
Be aware of everyone around you and possible ambushes and don't let them get into punching range.
If someone asks you for a cigaratte or a chronological datum, scream like a brownie scout and run away.

Once concealed carry is enacted, you can shoot them. No permit nor training required.

Which would be the just and honorable thing, because we all know punching somebody and stealing their wallet is a capital crime and calls for the death penalty.

I can't wait to see what D-man says about this one.

A punch to the head could be fatal or cause a lifetime of damage to the victim.

In an attack such as this you wouldn't be able to get the Glock out from where you'd concealed it, click the safety off and point it before they had slugged you.

instead, the robbers would rob the gun from you and then the crooks would have one more gun.
