You may have thought that you moved into a student neighborhood, but the pensionistas have taken over. Your grandparents loved Madison in their youth so much that they stayed, but they quit being kids long ago. Now that they have had their fun, they want to make sure that you are "safe" and have a healthy life while keeping it quiet for them. Since they no longer have to work and have sweet government pensions, they have all day and night to make your life a living hell because with the "boomer" generation, its all about them.

NO, NO, NO!!...don't you understand? Transient educational tourists who stay in Madison for a few years while attending the UW are much more important than established taxpaying residental property owners.

I bet you're a blast at keggers. ("No, I will not wait in line for beer, I pay taxes here! You educational hit-and-runners get out of my (important) way!")

To clarify, is the subject of this thread meant to be
Welcome back students. (An imperative)
or
Welcome back, students? (A statement directed toward students)?

One might imagine this is a college town, after all.

No, it was supposed to be "Welcome, back students": a greeting to the orthopedic students arriving each semester.

(Do you talk like this in real life?)

Are you questioning the validity of those who claim to be students?

East Mifflin rule: if the party's loud enough the neighbors hear it, we're allowed to come over, drink your booze, and smoke your dope. We don't pay for cups.

Just a few little rules to help you fit in:

1. Yes, you really like your taste in music. But others might not. So keep the stereo down late at night, especially in wamer weather when people have their windows open. Same goes for your vehicles with the megawatt subwoofers.

2. Use the city provided trash and recycle bins according to instructions. And don't leave them out by the curb for days after the pickup. Know your trash day and your biweekly recycle dates.

3. When you come home at bar time, remember that your neighbor's lawn is not a trash can. Also, even if there aren't any legal parking places left, that is no reason to park over my driveway. You will get towed (it will cost you about a hundred bucks and plenty of hours of aggravation).

4. Have fun, study hard and use common sense.

Again, welcome back.

Annual bump.
