University Ave Famous Footwear/Panera Bread Building

Postby universitylad » Thu May 17, 2007 6:47 pm

I noticed a few months ago that there is a FOR LEASE sign up in front of the building that houses the Panera Bread and Famous Footwear on University Avenue near Hilldale Mall. (The old Borders West that many of us remember and loved)

Does anyone know the scoop? Will one or both tenants be leaving?

New Panera opening up across from Hooters in the old Chi-Chi's lot.

Are they closing the University Panera? The article I read in the WSJ on Wednesday said that the 5th local location of Panera would be opening Monday 5/21 but I don't recall the article mentioning closing an existing location. But, I was doing my lunch-time Evelyn Wood's style eating/reading/skimming/eating/reading technique so I might have missed that.

And the new Panera is opening up at the old Mountain Jacks, or someother meaningless steak joint chain building that went belly-up on Mineral Point, not the Chi-Chi's which is a little bit around the corner and down the road on Grand Canyon.

I have seen the new Panera in the location, but would they close the University Avenue location? It's always packed everytime I'm in it for lunch.

Ah. That's right. It was a Timber Lodge Steakhouse, otherwise known as Meaningless Steak Joint.
