I heard that he's not even a vegetarian.

“If a person does not harm any living being…
and does not kill or cause others to kill-
that person is a true spiritual practitioner.â€Â

I just hope his audience didn't go away thinking that compassion is reserved only for fellow hominids.

Wow. You are actually busting the Dalai Lama's balls. Only the fundie tools protesting against Buddhism outside the Kohl Center today were more ridiculous than someone doing so anonymously on the Internet.

Do you know a thing about Buddhism or the Dalai Lama?

Paco's right about his talks here being a fund raising effort for the new temple out at Deer Park Buddhist Center out in Oregon, Wisconsin, so no it isn't "creepy" at all to be charged tickets. At the end of the three days of teachings, he told everyone exactly what his costs were for his trip and exactly what was happening to the rest of the money. He didn't hide anything.

And that's exactly how I considered my money: a donation to a worthy cause.

To address sylvie's concerns: eating meat does not cause any being to be killed. The people who raise and kill the animals humans eat would kill them, regardless of whether or not His Holiness ate meat or not. And someone mentioned his health problems with regard to being a vegetarian. I had read the same thing. From one of His Holiness's books, I read that he eats meat every other day. He's obviously aware of the issue and tries to reduce his meat consumption. It's only the fanatics who think that if you aren't a pure vegetarian that you aren't sincere in your desire to end the suffering of others.

sylvie, and if you think all the listeners of his talks all got one single impression and they all walked away like mindless robots, maybe you ought to re-examine how you think of your fellow humans a little more, instead of worrying just about the animals.

blunt, must you be irreverent about everything?

Yes.
But all of us really are killing machines.
Nothing that exists can live without grabbing life from something else.
That makes us all, hmmm....interconnected.
Completely dependent upon each other.
Understanding that renders one outrageously proud to be alive and humbly grateful.

I am only annoyed by "vegetarians" that eat fish.
WTF?
And by oversensitive vegan co-op members that throw out all the food if a dog trots though the kitchen.
