Church just did a Milli Vanilli?

Postby bluethedog » Fri Apr 20, 2007 9:53 am

A few minutes ago the bells are going off at the Church by my house (Good Shepherd Lutheran at Whitney and Raymond) and all of a sudden it just winds down like a record player losing power. Then a few seconds later it starts up again.

I always assumed those were real bells, am I that gullible ??? Any churchies in the know on this?

And while we're at it, why are churches allowed to create this daily noise pollution unchecked.

Where's Andy Olsen when we need him?
Shouldn't churches be "decent neighbors" and keep their damn chimes to themselves?

Not necessarily gullible. Gullible would be believing an unbelievable story about actual bells being used. It's probably closer to naive.

No one ever said they had to be real bells. In truth, a lot of belltowers are moving to electronic bells, or carillons. Less maintenance.

I do doubt it's being played via record player, though.

That would be pretty funny though. Imagine the record skipping incessantly.

I went to one of those electric carrilon sites. It's just a fancy CD player attached to a PA system.

They were real when I was an altar boy. At least that's what the priest told me when he invited me up into the steeple to check out his bells.

Really? Anyone else thinking Shawshank Redemption with Andy playing those Italian ladies on the PA?

That would be so cool if they were played on an LP. You could have a DJ up there.....do it hip-hop style.

Well... sure... but ya can't charge carillon prices for "a fancy CD plaer attached to a PA system," now can ya?!

The ones at UW Madison are real.

And they're spectacular.
