Mark Tauscher for Governor

Postby fflambeau » Thu Mar 30, 2017 8:27 pm

Mark Tauscher played for both the Badgers (where he was a stand-out lineman) and for the Packers for several years. Now, it seems that a group of Wisconsinites want to recruit him to run for Governor.

It makes sense: he's well known, well liked, and serves on the UW School of Education's Board of Visitors. He's been a great football player but he is also interested in social issues (and he's a liberal). I believe he is also one of the owners of this very web site.

Some months ago, I pushed for Aaron Rogers to run; that too would make sense but Tauscher is a native Wisconsinite and perhaps takes a keener interest in politics. He should go for it. He'd make a terrific alternative to the failed approaches of the professional politician, Scott Walker.

Here are some reasons why:

1) born in Marshfield, Wisconsin (that's in the North);
2) walk-on player for the Badgers starting in 1995, blocked for All American Ron Dayne;
3) started for the Packers in 2000 and played with them until 2010;
4) he's no dummy (he's a Badger graduate) and has supported reading initiatives for children;
5) he's well known to most Wisconsinites (he has a radio show and does t.v. commentary)

Here's a Facebook page set up by others to push and recruit Tauscher as the Democratic candidate against Scott Walker. https://www.facebook.com/Mark-Tauscher- ... 515434485/

Gor for it Mark! Not even fellow walk-on Jim Leonhard has become Governor (yet)! Plus, if you win, you could easily have a national platform (and perhaps access to the presidency). Disclaimer: since Mark Tauscher appears to be one of the owners of the Isthmus, let me say that I have nothing to do with either and do not know Tauscher personally. I do think he'd make a good Governor.

As an owner of the Isthmus, is that a pro or a con?

If Tauscher bans ffdouchebeau from the forum, he gets my vote.

Good stuff. But here is the elephant in the room:

Tauscher shot down the rumors. Any other sportsball players to recruit for Governor?

Can we move Brett Favre to Wisconsin?

Or would he retire and un-retire as many times as Soglin?

I'd vote for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, were he eligible.

Barely alive. And his politics probably aren't much different than Walker's.

So, in short, Bart Starr has many similarities with the governor.

I've got a nice story about the guy. I was touring the Kohl Center as a chaperone with my elementary school son at the time. We were down where the athletes get physical therapy and such, I was leaning against the wall, there was this dude with slightly longish hair hanging out, and when he walked by I said hello, we were making small talk, I told him why I was there...

he asked me if I followed football, to which I replied, 'nah, never much got interested in it', more small talk ensued.

Shortly after a bunch of college kids came in and mobbed him.

It was Mark Tauscher, he seemed like a really nice guy. Didnt let on anything about being a packer or anything. I thought he worked for the badgers staff.

He made me care a bit more about football. Nice Wisconsin guy! I'd vote for him.
