Cullen for governor

Postby Shorty » Thu Mar 09, 2017 4:52 pm

Seems too early but sounds like Cullen will be first Walker-challenger to enter. He would be 75 in 2018.

Cullen says he's on track for announcing run for governor
http://www.channel3000.com/news/politic ... /385751559

"Former Democratic state Sen. Tim Cullen says he is on track for officially launching a run for governor by the end of April...Cullen has been traveling the state for months and laying the groundwork for a run...The 73-year-old Cullen is from Janesville and served in the state Senate from 1975 to 1987 and 2011 to 2015."

A business owner, moderate Democrat and noted for bridge building with the Republicans when he served in the Legislature. And not from Madison. Maybe he has a chance.

Good luck to him. Better than Walker at any rate.

I'd vote for him,but I wish Glenn Schultz would run. He and Cullen were the last of a dying breed. Serious legislators who could work with others in service of the common good.

Seems to me like the common good is a dying breed. Makes me sad and angry.

I'm afraid you're correct.
Fear is naturally exploitable,
Could you provide any words of wisdom to us you are a little more young than you?
Respectfully,
M.H.

P.S.- I expect Cullen (a nice'ish moderate) will have his ass handed to him even if wiscdems could get their shit together. I don't think nice'ish moderates are getting the votes of those who show up at the polls today.

Who, or what type of candidate do you think could win? I can't think of anyone offhand.

MAYBE Tammy Baldwin, but she'd have to leave the Senate and I don't think she wants to.

That is exactly what will happen. The party grass roots have moved hard left, so no "nice'ish moderate" democrat will likely be nominated, let alone elected. This will probably also play havoc with the Dems chances in 2018

I hope this is not the case, but I fear it may well be the case.

Yes, he's older than Scott Walker.

I'd rather have a good governor who is elderly than the nation's third worst (soon to be second worst) governor who is young.

As for the Democratic Primary, I would rather have an old man who can beat Walker win than a young man or young woman who cannot beat Walker. We need a better candidate than Barrett or Burke.

I always want both parties to run their best candidates. You never know what will happen. Back in 2010, the Democrats were laughing because the GOP came up with "weak" candidates Scott Walker and Ron Johnson. The Democratic Party was planning the victory parties long before the voting. I wonder if that sort of complacency was one of the things that depressed the vote. Democrats assumed a blowout, so stayed home.

What isn't mentioned is that any republican would have the same fame. Only a Democrat can be a good governor. Just ask any liberal on this forum.

He's in his mid-70s. About the same age as Trump, Clinton and Sanders.
