Have a gulp of Nass-tea... (Steve)

MADISON — A Republican legislator warned Thursday that a University of Wisconsin-Madison instructor’s decision to assign an “offensive” essay on gay men’s sexual preferences could have budget ramifications for the entire UW-System next year.
...
Nass demanded UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, UW President Ray Cross and all the regents read the essay and give him their thoughts on it, warning that their answers will play a role in evaluating the system’s 2017-2019 budget.
I wonder if he realizes that he has to 'log in' every time he uses the internet?

What the hell is wrong with this guy? I feel a bit sorry for him that he makes such a spectacle of his ignorance and narrowness. It's embarrassing. If all he did was bring attention to some lurid writing on race and gay sex, we could laugh it off. But Nass then reminds us why such narrowmindedness is dangerous. This guy goes from a mildly icky creep to a narcissistic mini-dictator by threatening the budget of the entire university system over one assigned essay in one piss ant sociology course, just because this little coward thinks the essay threatens his narrow view of the world. But he then goes further by insisting on some sort of response by Cross and Blank, which, presumably he, as the ALEC and Koch Perfessor of Everything Good and Holy, is going to grade. And that grade will determine how much money he will give out along with his little stickers of the cross, like those I used to receive in Sunday school. Nass, get a grip on reality!!!

In some classes there will be material that might be a bit out of a student's comfort zone. Probably Nass would be a little shaken by an Evolution course, too. Maybe some Prof teaches the Song of Solomon. Great poetry, but it is pretty explict. He might find it a bit too risque. He's just narcissistic and arrogant enough to call on God to explain that one. Poor God. Nass is gonna cut his budget.

He's built his entire career on making mountains out of little molehills like this. I wish the UW had the guts to say "our official response to your request is to tell you to fuck off. Leave educating to educators, you stupid, preening, grandstanding son of a bitch." Speak truth to power.

Where do these people come from? When I was a whippersnapper, they would immediately be thrown into the looney bin never to be seen or heard from again.

Let's take a quick break from Trump and turn our attention to an ignorant asshole on the local stage:

State senator decries UW diversity outreach as 'sinister'

Sen. Steve Nass made the comments Thursday in reaction to UW announcing its plans to improve the experiences of minorities. The plan calls for having new students discuss social differences, a new cultural center for black students and increased opportunities to take ethnic studies courses.

Nass says university leaders "constantly complain about lacking money" but "they never lack money for advancing new and more sinister ways of liberal indoctrination of students."

Republicans voice contempt for UW ‘political correctness’ as budget process begins

Meanwhile, Vos is challenging the UW System to “practice what it preaches” on free speech and foster debate by inviting more conservative speakers to its campuses.
The UW gave campus Republicans $197K in 2006 to bring in conservative speakers, and the very first one was Ted Nugent for $30K.

https://badgerherald.com/news/2006/10/2 ... cks-campu/

The already rowdy crowd at the theater erupted when a member of the audience criticized Nugent's non-involvement in the Vietnam War.

Nugent ended the prolonged verbal exchange between the two with the short demand, "Eat shit and die."

The argument allowed both parties to express their viewpoints, despite the chaotic shouting match, according to CFACT president Adam Ostrum.
:) That's my buddy, a 2-1/2 tour Nam vet who did that... Here's the full exchange from him repeatedly telling me what happened. I wasn't there as I had a medical emergency, although I passsed out 500 fliers at the Memorial Union that day.

Tony, a Vietnam vet, confronted Ted Nugent in a Q and A session after a speech sponsored by a campus Republican group, CFACT, that paid him $30,000 with UW grant money at the Madison, WI campus in the Memorial Union Theater 10/25/2006. This is a transcript of it:

Ted finishes his speech and begins to announce a Q & A with the audience when Tony steps up to the mic on the audience floor near the edge of the stage.

TED: Here’s our first one!
TONY: I want to welcome Ted Nugent for coming here to speak with us! (Claps into the microphone)
TED: Thank you.
TONY: Ted, I think our right wing views are just a little bit different (holding index finger and thumb ½” apart)
TED: How so?
TONY: I think I’m more of a patriot than you.
TED: Explain…
TONY: I served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam.
TED: (nears edge of stage) I salute you!
TONY: Unlike you, who defecated and urinated in his pants to avoid serving his country. I think you’re a yellow-bellied, chicken-livered, traitorous coward! (The crowd starts yelling & whoopin’)
TED (runs back behind podium): You shouldn’t believe everything you read in ‘Cream’ magazine!
TONY: (pans the audience with the article) “Detroit Free Press, July 15th, 1990, Interview with Ted Nugent.”

Someone cut Tony’s mic, and two security guards came near him to escort him from the theater as Nugent yells into the mic, “Fuck you!”
Tony turned back a couple times and said, “ you’re a mother fucking traitorous coward.”
Nugent yelled again, “Eat shit and die!”
As Tony nears the exit, 3 college kids approach and say, “That was awesome!”

Sounds like something WI republicans would try:

Iowa legislature introduces bill to require university faculty applicants to state party affiliation
http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/2/ ... l=facebook

"Iowa State Sen. Mark Chelgren (Republican, of course) has introduced a bill requiring “partisan balance” among the faculty of public universities. In what may be the worst state bill (not specifically aimed at women) so far this year, the bill would require faculty to state their party affiliation before being hired. Of course the end game is to have fewer Democrats influencing those young minds".

Probably not constitution, but that doesn't mean they won't try.
