That explains it. I'm from Marathon County, and we find the Langlade Co dialect barely intelligible.

It's fun to hear newscasters pronounce Antigo if they're not from the area. "And up in AnTEEgo.."

That was very funny and true. Having grown up around the north central area, as well, I haven't missed all of it - but I miss being close to old friends, family, and subtly different 'dialect' (i.e.- Mosinee vs Bevent, or Gleason vs Hurley).

Or Wausau vs. Mar't'n City.

I haven't heard the name Bevent in decades. We used to call it "Bewent"... maybe a backward nod to the fact that "w" in Polish is prounced as a "v"?

This says a ton:

Scott Walker says no Wisconsin bill for gun background checks:

...The Republican governor made his comments on the state bill in a conference call from Shanghai following the Senate's rejection of the federal bill Wednesday.

And opening a trade office called "Wisconsin Center China in Shanghai" on Nanjing Road? Second-highest-rent district in one of the most expensive cities in the world, and they can't even come up with an intelligible name? Plus the UW-Madison already has a "Shanghai Innovation Center" in a cheaper part of town--couldn't they find a way to share the rent?

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will contract with trade representatives who are marketing and business consultants to do the work out of the center.

I hope they do a better job of keeping track of the money they spend than they have in the past.

Yes! That one is classic and the best example - excepting At'ins.

BTW - the boss man is back. Any, new, scuttlebutt?
