I predict the American economy will rise up and become strong once again. But it's not going to happen through applying more socialism and taking more from the rich.

Hey, Mr. Henry, when the 1907 economic downturn hit, did your hero, President Teddy Roosevelt decrease government debt, keep government debt the same, or increase government debt by $4 trillion?

dodge, evasion, no substance.

Well historically we've never taken less. The Republican solution is to put more in the hands of fewer and tax them less. The reality is they've never had more and they've never been taxed less. I don;t know how any sane person could see more of the same as the solution to anything. Money needs to be "redistributed". It has been for the last 30 years from the backs of the laborer to the Swiss bank accounts of the 1%. We need to transfer some of it back to the consumer. Gutting the social safety net and coddling billionaires isn't going to do it.

Still waiting for an answer on whether you think Teddy Roosevelt was a communist or a socialist.

An "intelligent" comment about that particular statement would be It is factually incorrect to state that billionaires pay no taxes.

A "Vilas" comment about that particular statement would be Fuck off, you lying troll.

In this case, either one will work.

Follow the thread and quit quibbling. It's about two Wisconsin billionaires who paid absolutely no state income tax. Do you have a job? If so, you pay more than they do.

From the cited article quoted in my opening post:
without paying a nickel in state income tax...

Unless they paid less than five cents, it looks like you are the liar.

The American economy from 1945 to the early 1980's prove you wrong.

At the federal level you can hear people say "lets lower taxes, and reform the tax code, which will be fairer, and raise revenue".

This guy thinks we should make sure we do the reform first.

I'm skeptical that any 'tax reform' will be fair.

Also from that article:

Johnson-Leipold's state income taxes "averaged in the seven figures" in 2007 and 2008, and her 2011 bill will be in that range.

Like I said, to claim that she "paid absolutely no state income tax" is a lie.

Just like the title of this thread is a lie. The billionaires of our state don't get a free waiver on the sales tax whenever they make a purchase. They don't get an exemption for their property taxes.

What happens is that in one or two years their taxable income wasn't high enough to have taxes paid on it. If you want to have a discussion about if people with low income should pay taxes on that revenue stream, then lets do so.

But if you're going to instead insist on continuing with the class warfare bullshit, can you at least be honest and truthful while doing so? If so, please start by correcting the title of the thread. (If you're okay with lying, then of course just leave it as it is.)

It is obvious from the opening post that I was talking about the past year, where they paid no state income tax. But you are just being your usual disingenuous self.

So do you agree with T.R., or is he just another socialist? Quit quibbling and discuss the actual issue at hand (if you can).

The actual issue at hand is if T.R. is a socialist or not?

I have been discussing the actual issue at hand. The title of this thread is "Billionaires pay no state tax". The opening comment was "Only the little people pay Wisconsin income tax." That is what I am talking about, while you're instead trying to make this discussion about if some President in the past was a socialist or not. If that is really what you want to talk about then perhaps you should start a new thread. I am interested in talking about this original topic so please try to defend the title of this thread and your opening comment (if you can).

The actual issue at hand is if T.R. is a socialist or not?

Conservatives on this board have made it an issue of socialism or communism, as that is what they call those who want the very rich to pay more in taxes (as T.R. proposed over 100 years ago.)

So I'll rephrase it. Are those who hold the same views as T.R. socialists? Or is it only fair that the very rich pay more in taxes?
