I see they even got some root beer, just in case Mittens showed up.

Must be quite the "beer and brat summit"-
Helicopters hovering overhead and quite a few black Suburbans in the area.

I am so creeped out by the BBQ.

It's not a gesture of reconciliation, it's passive aggressive. "I can do whatever I want, and you're gonna like me. " True reconciliation would occur out of light of publicity, with sincere recognition and respect for the other side's postions.

I think the whole idea is Walker gets to say, for the next 2 1/2 years, "Look at me! I tried to be bipartisan. I had a brat party" while doing nothing else whatsoever to mend the rift in the state and it's government. And he gets to blame any problems that crop up on those ungrateful Democrats.

If the Wisconsin Senate doesn't rubber stamp all of Walker's initiatives, he will make them the scrapegoat. His motto: The buck doesn't stop here.

It is true that in some parts of the country "barbecuing" simply refers to what Wisconsinites call "firing up the grill."

Here, however, barbecue refers to barbecue. And brats are not barbecue.

This.

BBQ = low heat, longer cooking, generally with smoke.

You can use a grill to BBQ, but grilling isn't necessarily (and usually isn't) BBQ.

Just not true. If you google "barbecue definition" you'll see that all the dictionaries define barbecue as a cookout, and it is usually the primary definition. I've lived in different parts of WI for 40 years, and have routinely heard "BBQ" refer to the common definition of an outdoor party/cookout.

This is not a regional "bubbler" issue.

Right, that is a seperate, second definition of BBQ.

To say that the culinary definition makes the use of the more generic use invalid is anal. Well, maybe that's a little strong, I'll just go with wrong.

I think we should have a little cookout to heal the wounds of this rift.

"A barbecue" can be an event; "barbecue" as a cooking style does not include throwing brats on a grill.

You can probably get away with using one for the other here, but I wouldn't try it anywhere south of central Illinois!
