Joe Parisi - Master of the Silly

Postby nevermore » Wed May 30, 2007 12:26 pm

Wispolitics has its little Vanity Fair-esque e-profile section and this week it's profiling Rep. Parisi:

http://www.wispolitics.com/index.iml?Article=96781

The worst part of this set of trite q's and a's is this:

24. If I was king of Wisconsin for a day, I'd declare that ...
Wisconsin would institute real campaign finance reform with a solid public financing component.

Now, if someone asked me that question, I'd go something like "If I was king of Wisconsin for a day, I'd declare myself King for life and abolish elections." What's the point of having an instant monarchy otherwise? I guess I'm just wired differently.

Huh? You say his answer is trite and silly, and claim he should have said he would declare himself King and abolish elections? You sound an awful lot like his opponent in the last election.

If I were king of Wisconsin for the day, I'd declare Pam Tauscher my queen and spend the remains of the day gettin' busy.

Why does he have to be King for a day to get that done. Isn't that why we elected him? To get things done, and if it's something he wants, (and we sure as hell do too)....do it! Don't wait for some imaginary King Shit Day.

It's always interesting how many politicians will turn down all opportunities to be clever or even kind of funny.

Having been on the other end of these email questions, you try and throw a couple questions in there to allow the subject to show some personality. Most fail the test.

I agree about the humor and if you actually read it, he did do that with some other questions. I think the original poster has an ax to grind.

19. Most people don't know I'm good at ...
Computer chess

Let's find out. Since you've never claimed, like onetime AG Don Hannaway or Drug Czars Bill Bennett and Robert S Dupont that marijuana smoking causes permanent brain damage, you're spared the usual $10,000 stakes.[/b][/quote]

On thing I've noticed about polticians is that on a personal level, most of them are darn funny. It doesn't seem to matter if they are left or right, their senses of humor seems well develped and deliciously dark. Too bad if they let that show, they get crushed by the media or taken out context by opponents. We do need a lot more humor in politics because these days, the funny stuff falls in the "sad, but true" category.
