Anyone else *not* received their state tax refund?

Postby Mister_A_In_Madison » Thu May 24, 2007 1:04 pm

Unlike last year (when we filed in early April and had a refund by June), we filed our state return a full two months early and so far have not received a refund.

Does it not matter when one files their paper return?

I haven't. The state must be trying to collect more interest income by holding collections and refunds longer.

Check your refund status here

I filed in early February and waited until April for my refund.

Here is what they're doing: They don't want to handle paper....it's labor-intensive. They want to make it as customer-unfriendly as they can to file paper to force you to file electronically.

As recently as two years ago, my paper filing would result in a refund check in about 2 1/2 weeks.

Oh, I understand that.

However, I really object to the idea (like banks do with regard to ATM usage) that we get charged to make their job easier.

If they want everyone to file electronically, then we should get free filing software.

We should not be punished (the leak of social security numbers and the subsequent, poorly-executed recovery plan and now this delayed refund) for following their rules.

Filed electronically weeks ago and got my refund a week and a half later.

Word. I filed in mid-February, had my refund in less than a week.

And with direct deposit, I didn't even have to make a trip to the bank.

On paper?

Now I am beginning to wonder if I should not have chewed out a DOR representative for their identity-theft protection plan....

No, I filed electronically. Just like I have for the last four or five years.

Freely admitting that I am a proud Luddite, may I ask which software package you used for this?

I owed taxes, and paid 'em. And they still haven't deposited the check.

You already can file for free on the web.

I've been using Turbo Tax since tax year 1998.

I filed by paper, I filed on the last day possible, I filled out the form in pencil and purposely erased and rewrote numbers to make it as difficult as possible for a state lackey to process the form and then I sent it to the wrong address. I don't need the refund, but just thought I'd have fun this year being the asshole who's form takes the longest time and most resources to process.

I'm getting my money's worth. But I don't expect to see my money until August.

And tax prep software is deductible. So even if you buy turbotax, you deduct the cost from the taxes you owe, making it more or less free.
