Gov. Walker: Statement on increased revenue projections
Governor Scott Walker released the following statement in reaction:
The projected $543 million surplus is good news for the people of Wisconsin. Our sound fiscal management means we can continue to invest in our priorities while protecting taxpayers.
Great! So now that Wisconsin has a half million bucks in its slush fund, then the federal government can feel free to pull back on funding directed to Wisconsin. That would reflect the Wisconsin way, right?
Oh, but wait-- I keep forgetting about that pesky GAAP deficit. You remember the GAAP deficit-- it existed back when Governor Doyle said he'd "balanced the budget" and Walker called Doyle a liar because of the GAAP deficit in this hit piece. So if Doyle was a liar for claiming that the budget was balanced when we actually had a multi-billion dollar GAAP deficit, what is Walker when he says we have a surplus while still maintaining a multi-billion dollar GAAP deficit?
