I watch the Charlie Rose show regularly because the guests are great and he's the only one who does long interviews. C-SPAN is an option, but it requires a treasure hunt through a sea of tedium.
Charlie Rose has amassed a thirty year trove of interviews with the world's most interesting people. The feat is amazing because Rose has horrible interviewing skills. He interrupts guests continuously, especially when the speaker is on the cusp of making a critical point. Rose is convinced of his own brilliance, as evidenced by his long speeches with ponderous pauses for deep thought. He takes a paragraph to ask a sentence from Captain Obvious.
The world is full of fascinating conversationalists. How cruel that Charlie Rose ended-up at the top of the heap. Why? Why? Why?
How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?
