Harvey Pekar, a splendid American, has eaten his last tempeh sandwich.
I just loaned my bound collection of American Splendor last week to a friend who had never heard of it. Not surprisingly, she loved it.
I'm not kidding when I say that I consider Pekar to be one of the giants of 20th-century American letters. His fundamental honesty and compassion were characteristics I can only aspire to emulate.
R.I.P., Harvey. You were the definition of a mensch.
What books, zines or other pulp are you reading? What aren't you reading? What should everyone else read?
