So why didn't that show up on Expedia etc.?

I don't know.

I use https://www.google.com/flights/ or the airline's website.

Here is another good site to get from one place to another:
http://www.rome2rio.com/

We used it traveling recently in Europe (Netherlands, Germany, England) and it seemed pretty accurate - right down to the bus line we needed to take from the train station to where we were staying. As with most you need to put in dates to get accurate prices.

Thanks! I don't know why Frontier's prices didn't show up on Orbitz, Travelocity etc. I probably won't do this til next year. I'm seriously considering Amtrak. I've traveled by train several times (as well as flying) and trains are a lovely way to travel.
