We have great locations right in our own backyard. New Glarus, has one of the first music/beer tents of the season this weekend. The Glarner Stube is a great restaurant (order the Weiner Schnitzel, prime rib, and/or rosti potatoes).
Toffler's has great free music on Saturday nights. Puempel's is a neat bar. The New Glarus Bakery has great treats. Hoesly's Meat Market in the industrial park is a gem (mushroom, chicken, cajun, olive bratwurst, veal loaf, etc.). New Glarus Woods is quiet. Nice bike trail. Rustic roads nearby. Quaint, authentic, and not nearly as campy as some might think. If you go on Saturday mornings it is worth the drive to the Chalet Cheese Factory on County Highway N about 7 miles south of New Glarus. Also some great galleries & shops.
Paoli is also near by and has some great galleries and shops. Be sure to have a burger in the Paoli Pub. They are awesome. Yes, it's a country bar, but don't let that intimidate you. The patrons are friendly. Say hi to Al and/or Wanda.
Princeton, WI is a great place for the 'girls' to go shopping on Saturday; quite a unique and fun shopping experience. I highly recommend it. Cedarburg is also a great destination for shopping.
I'm also fond of the waterfalls in Marinette County, the Baraboo Bluffs, and Wyalusing State Park.
