Thinking of going to Italy for my 40th b'day in December. Any suggested itineraries out there? Should I skip the Amalfi Coast? Is it a bad idea to go in December? Thanks!

The Amalfi coast should be lovely in December. If you find it cooler than you wanted you can always move south to Sicily. I would suggest Cinque Terre but, unfortunately, not in December.

First trip to Italy was Rome right after Xmas, weather was very mild, not snowy or cold, but not warm either. I would guess that the further South you go, the better for that time of year. You also won't have the kind of tourist crowds you would in the high season.

Was in Venice/Florence/Pisa/Santa Margherita in June on my other trip, beautiful weather!
