CAVE CURSE EP RELEASE SHOW!
Thursday August 11th, 2016
@ High Noon Saloon
9 PM - 18+ - $6

CAVE CURSE (Volar Records / Rare Plant)
https://www.facebook.com/cavecurse/
https://cavecurse.bandcamp.com/
Darkwave synth-punk solo project turned duo from Madison, WI. Cave Curse was originally started as an outlet for Bobby Hussy (The Hussy, Fire Retarded, TIT) to release solo synth-pop recordings with no intentions of ever performing the songs live. The debut 7” was released in 2015 on Volar Records and featured Bobby playing all the instruments himself for the first time in his career. In early 2016 Cave Curse became a two-piece when Bobby asked recent Madison transplant and all around solid dude, Will Gunnerson to play drums for the project. Gunnerson is most known for his work as half of Jabberjosh, a heavy bass and drum duo from Lawrence, Kansas. The band, which featured Will’s brother Sam on bass and vocals, quickly gained a reputation in the Midwest underground for their unique mix of punk, sludge and noise elements. Gunnerson’s innovative and dynamic live drumming has morphed Cave Curse into an entirely new punk venture. Bobby Hussy’s walls of synth sonics and dramatic vocals are now backed by Gunnerson’s punchy, hard hitting and often times completely dancey rhythms. The band is currently working on their debut LP as the two-piece. This show will celebrate the release of a brand new Cave Curse EP on cassette format (with download). The tape will be available for the first time at this show through Madison’s finest tape label, Rare Plant! Only 40 cassettes will be made.

NAKED LIGHTS (Castle Face Records)
https://www.facebook.com/livingstains/
http://nakedlights.bandcamp.com/
The thorny Oakland, Calif.-based five piece make it very clear from the first few seconds of the record to the very end that the music here is intensely addictive and welcomely unpredictable stuff. Shades of post-punk, dub, even anarcho-punk vibes are thrillingly re-blended into wholly futuristic shapes that defy easy categorization. Consisting of Cameron Stephens (guitar/synth/bullhorn/percussion), Christopher Sprague (bass/organ/percussion), Josh Lindenfelzer (drums/percussion/synth/AM radio/saxophone/stylophone/suona), Christopher Hash (guitars), and Aurora Crispin (vocals), Naked Lights' cross-talking guitars speak their own prickly language. The atmosphere is wide-focus and carries a subtle tang of danger, the whole sense of timing and space is unique and fresh, and it's topped off with a feminine yelp that is as in your face as it is intriguing and foreign-seeming. The album was recorded at SANTO in Oakland, mixed and produced by Josh Roberts and Christopher Sprague, and engineered by Jonah Strauss. An altogether unique and refreshingly vital listen from Castle Face. For fans of Wire, This Heat, Gang of Four, MX-80, etc.

GRAVE TEXTURE
Dark and noisey post-punk two-piece from Madison. Thematic, ambient and always evolving. A collaboration between Madison stalwarts Beau Deveroux (Samantha Glass) and Izzi Plunkett (Ossuary)! DO NOT MISS!
Starting things off right at 9 PM!

"Hear a new track from Bobby Hussy's angsty synth-pop project, which plays August 11 at the High Noon.

In his newish project Cave Curse, Madison musician Bobby Hussy (The Hussy, Fire Retarded) entertains his growing fascination with synthesizers and experiments with a more cracked vocal style. Cave Curse's new self-titled EP lands somewhere [between] the punk/power-pop territory he explores in The Hussy and cold, ghoulish goth-rock.

Of the four songs on the EP, "Charms" goes the furthest into sounds that might be unfamiliar to fans of The Hussy. The synth hooks here are eerie and skeletal, unlike the warmer, more up-front hooks on a couple other songs Bobby has already teased from the release, "The Mess I Had Made" and "Stoned And Dethroned." The vocal track is just a little buried in reverb and multi-tracked synths, even as Bobby delivers tortured lines like "Be still, my barren heart!" and "I push you away." There are still a lot of pop instincts in the mix here, but Cave Curse wants to take the listener on a pointedly dark turn with this track. Give it a listen below.

In live sets, Bobby Hussy pairs up with drummer Will Gunnerson, who isn't on this EP but will play on a full-length planned for next year. Cave Curse will celebrate a limited cassette release of the new EP, on Madison's Rare Plant label, with an August 11 show at the High Noon Saloon."
