Antibiotics in meat

Postby Shorty » Mon Jan 23, 2017 10:44 am

Two of my dislikes, antibiotics and meat, combined in one topic.

Antibiotics in Fast Foods – What’s inside that burger?

"According to a report released by the Center for Food Safety, 16 out of 25 major food chains still score a “Fail” on the antibiotic test.

A - Panera, Chipotle
B - Chick Fil A
C - McDonalds, Wendys, Taco Hell
D - Pizza Hit, Papa Johns
F - DQ, Denny’s, Dunkin Donuts Jack in the Box, KFC, Arby’s, Sonic, Olive Garden, Starbucks, Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Burger King, Chili’s, Domino’s, IHOP, and Little Ceasars."

Perhaps the Center for Food Safety is a food fail.

There are no antibiotics in the meat from my farm. Animals should not be given antibiotics unless it is a life and death situation. Farmers who need to give their animals feed laced with antibiotics are doing something wrong in my opinion. Maybe if the animals didn't live in their own shit for a starter. And grain -especially corn- in not natural food for most livestock.

This article says that antibiotics also make a cow grow faster.

I got suspicions that the people who buy antibiotics in bulk consider the sickness prevention characteristics of those drugs to be rather unimportant aspects.

Some farmers buy medicated feed to boost growth rate. But a lot of farmers need to give their livestock medicated feed so keep them alive. Our conventional farming system is kind of sick.
