Tex Tubb's confusion

Postby Shorty » Tue Dec 28, 2010 1:13 pm

Tex Tubb's outside walls say Cadillac Ranch. But a hanging sign says Cactus Ranch. Which is it? What is the difference? Should I bring my Cadillac or cactus when I eat there?

There should be plenty of room in your Cadillac for you and your cactus. Bring it along just to be safe.

They're "in transition" or some such thing. Incidentally, having gone there recently, it feels like a big downgrade in quality. (The east side Tex Tubb's is still awesome.)

Tex Tubb's to Cadillac Ranch to Cactus ranch...doesn't hide the poor quality of their food!

One wonders if they decided to change the name to Cadillac Ranch, did so--and then got a call from a representative of a certain major automotive manufacturer.

Regardless, the current nomenclature is Cactus Ranch.

Two things I really liked about the place disappeared. They had a little salsa bar where you could load-up on a nice variety of salsas. Gone. My other favorite was the BBQ beef brisket, excellent on tacos or as an entree. RIP

The other food is still pretty good, but I stopped going there because it is too painful to be reminded of my lost loves.

Compared to what? They aren't more expensive than Pedros.

I have noticed that the restaraunts that offer bargain prices (and decent quality food) tend to go out of business.

I still like this restaurant.

The GM seems to be a really nice guy, changing things up at a restaurant often takes some time.

I miss the bbq brisket as well, but I still really like the place, I plan on going as much as I ever did.

Interesting, considering that there's already a well-established chain of "Cadillac Ranch" restaurants http://cadillacranchgroup.com/ and a long-time independent Cadillac Ranch in Bartlett, IL http://s126613707.onlinehome.us/cadranch/country/index.php, at least.

If a C&D is involved, I'd guess it came from a similar restaurant rather than a major motor corporation.

1. Try Los Gemelos.
2. Pedro's is an embarrassment to Madison and Mexican food.
3. Los Gemelos just expanded to a second location so your last point is wrong.

Pedros has greatly improved their food.

Pedros and Chi-chis could get away with serving slop back in the 80's and 90's because there wasn't so much competition.

I like Pedros because they have strong, half price margaritas on tuesday and thursday, and they are open late, a good combination.

I will. Never heard of it before but this review sounds good. More for take out than to sit and dine.
