The Skate Wing is off the menu at Sardine's.
Our (wonderful) waitress noted that it was listed as a "avoid" by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.
In the aquarium's own words: "Skates have been severely overfished and most are caught with bottom trawls, which result in high levels of accidental catch and substantial damage to the seafloor."
I applaud Sardine for removing one of Madison's most popular menu items in the name of sustainability.
MAN, though, I'll miss it.
Plus: That scream in the far distance? Raphael Kadushin...
Grocery stores, recipes, cook books, CSAs, farmers' markets, organic, local, processed, corporate. It's a smorgabord!

I'm surprised it took them this long. It's been on the Monterey Bay list for some time now. One wonders whether Sushi Muramoto will pull it as well, having just added it in place of the walleye on their lunch menu.
