Cardinal Closing Sunday

Postby Jazznews » Fri Jul 03, 2009 3:17 am

Corey Rogers makes it definite:
Corey Rogers, who started as a manager at the dance club in 1996, said that barring 11th-hour help from outside investors, the Cardinal will close for good Sunday.

“It’s hard to see 13 years of hard work go down the drain,” said Rogers, who has “gotten e-mails from people all over the country” since he began to get news out a couple of days ago about the bar’s closing.

Rogers said changes in the way the city regulates bars and nightclubs — including the 2003 smoking ban — and recent bad winters that kept patrons home have contributed to the shutdown.

“It’s been a cumulative effect,” he said. “With the economy now, that’s pretty much the nail in the coffin.”...

Another pic from the SHSW website. The front bar has not much changed in all these years. Same tile floor. ... _by%3Ddate

It'd make a nice little strip club 8)
Believe it or not, there were actually "go-go dancers" just down the street at 518 E Wilson (which would put it inbetween Essen Haus and Hotel Ruby Marie)... of course this was 40 years ago when go-go dancing was all over Madison, before Madison was "cleaned up" (aka tamed).
