New gastropub planned for Square - Coopers Tavern

Postby LLUrbanUnderachiever » Wed Apr 29, 2009 2:54 pm

New gastropub planned for Square

A Madison couple is hoping to open an internationally flavored gastropub at 20 W. Mifflin St. on the Capitol Square in the old Sucre space, the French-style patisserie that closed in November.

The new restaurant/bar, to be named the Coopers Tavern, will feature brews from around the world as well as local favorites from Wisconsin craft breweries, with a menu designed to complement the beers.

What say you? Excited? Intrigued? Snarky and skeptical? Seems like a nice foil for The Old Fashioned, though in a pretty tiny space.

Tiny is no problem if the place is going for the "classic" gastropub vibe. And yes, that space is pretty tiny. Gonna be quite a 180 from the Apple Store-esque, purewhite of Sucre to The Spotted friggin Pig.

The article also states they have plans to be open by Memorial Weekend/Taste of Madison if their approvals/licensing goes as planned. Pretty effing ambitious timeline if you ask me.

Fuck is not always the right word. Perhaps you missed my post in defense of the Foron earlier today.

Isn't the Taste of Madison on Labor Day weekend? Not so ambitious, really.

In my book, effin'/g or friggin'/g or flippin'/g are useful for annoyance or exasperation or simple emphasis whereas fucking is usually only brought out for genuine anger or flabbergasted-ness. To each his or her fucking own I guess...

Yes but that phenomenon works just as well with "fuck".

An obnoxious foodie word for a bar/restaurant focusing on good food and good drink (often beer). Popping up everywhere in Chicago. Just one more element of Chicago trash taking the Van Galder up to Madison.
