i've got a friend looking for an italian pastry called a Zeppola.

Wiki defines it as-A zeppola (plural zeppole, in southern dialects zeppoli) or St. Joseph's Day cake, also called sfinge and in Rome Bignè di S. Giuseppe is a pastry typical of Roman, Neapolitan and generally peninsular Italian cuisine.

anybody know where he can get one around here or milwaukee, chicago?

They're usually sold at fairs, I don't think you can walk into a store/restaurant and find one. They're like funnel cakes, you can't go to Woodies and buy a box.

You can find sfingi at Festa Italia in Milw. A chicago fair might have them too. I had a few at the San Gennaro Festival in NY at the end of Sept.

I coulda sworn that someone, somewhere on the DPF, mentioned that they could be found locally. I would think Lombardino's would be the optimal site, but I haven't found any evidence that they traffic in zeppoli.

After seeing the giant-headed bosomy swan Giada De Laurentiis make her zeppole recipe on Food Network, I have had a major jones for 'em.

Is that the one with a little baby Jesus inside to choke on and die?

I thought zeppola was the album Jeff Beck cut with John Paul Jones and Robert Plant.

Okay, so it was a long way to go for a bad joke.

Cut me some slack here - that fishing thread took a lot out of me.

Hey, I liked the joke. I thought of Led Zep as soon as I saw the title of this thread. The Beck-Ola (and of course, the Yardbirds) connection is witty. If only you could have fit Clapton in.

Oh, and I liked the fishing thread even better.

So does Fraboni's have a line on zeppola?
