Krispy Kreme Klosing

Postby Ned Flanders » Fri Feb 22, 2008 3:10 pm

The last Minneapolis-area Krispy Kreme will close today. A product of puzzling media hype as thin and airy as the product itself.

I would guess that Madison will never see a KK.

You haven't missed much.

I'm still kicking myself for not shorting the living hell out of that stock five years ago.

This is great news. Now there will be no distractions when I open my chain of combination Tilted Kilt/Pump 'n' Munch's.

All your sordid, booze-sodden objectification needs under one roof! It's like MadMind's dream business!

Last I checked you still can get 'em at Your Open Pantry here in the Mad City. What I wouldn't give for a chocolate iced kreme filled right about now.

For my "donut filled with chocolate" fix I still think the bombolini at cafe soleil wins by a mile.

Krispy Kreme requires franchise owners have minimum net worth of $30,000,000 for any number of franchises below 30 and the franchise fee is around $1,000,000 before the cost of its obscenely large building and overhead. And if I have $30,000,000 in liquidity, I think I can find better investments than Krispy Kreme.

I wonder if people who paid franchise fees can get their money back?

The chocolate iced kreme filled has the chocolate on top, not inside. What's inside is, yes, kreme. Bet your Cafe Soleil doesn't have kreme.

Resurrect-A-Thread, part two:

Krispy Kreme is finally landing in Madison, years after their short-lived efforts to hang a shingle on Annamark Drive (where a joint venture between Victor Allen's and Potbelly opened instead, only to see Victor Allen's close).

Arriving with almost exactly zero publicity, KK will open on 2019 Deming Way, near the FedEx.

Of course, nearly every other location in Wisconsin collapsed a couple years ago, and one (in Appleton) turned into a Sonic--amusingly enough, if you're reading these two resurrected threads in sequence.

Well I suppose that once Wisconsin wins the championship and I in turn win my office pool I can get celebratory doughnuts for the office here instead of Scott's.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts have been available in Madison for a long time. I get them at Open Pantry. Then I eat them. Then I feel sick.

Scott's rocks, danish to kill for. I think they are the best in town. I am not affiliated, just addicted.

Thanks for the updates TBP.
Man, way out there on the far west side - LAME.
Not to mention it doesn't look like it's going to be a 24/7 location like the one in West Allis - DOUBLE LAME.
I have a feeling there would've been a better chance of the Annamark Dr location operating 24/7.
Although I suppose KK donuts only taste the best when they're hot off the lines anyhow, which is one of the main reasons to go to a KK store (that and the variety of donuts), as opposed to a convenience store.

KK is so much better in theory- nothing satisfies the post-drinking sweet tooth like Greenbush, tho.
