Is that because they were using the Penzey's chili powder that is pure ground chilis compared to the other brands who also have things like garlic and cumin in theirs? If so, they missed the point of using pure chili powder, which is that you get to control all those other elements. Obviously the other kinds have an advantage if you don't want to fuss with many seasonings and just want to make some decent chili fast.
Or am I missing the point and just don't realize that McCormick and Spice Islands really do make pure chili powder?
Grocery stores, recipes, cook books, CSAs, farmers' markets, organic, local, processed, corporate. It's a smorgabord!
