Since when is there a KFC on State St?

I hear Jada's Soul Food on Beld St. has some amazing fried chicken -- and they fry it right when you order it. MMMMM.

The Colonel moved in with the chihuahua recently, inspiring much discussion in this thread.

The Orpheum has had a weekly fried chicken special, that included a half chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy and a vegetable for around $10. Maybe wth a few inquiries, he'll bring it back during the cold weather months.

You newbies need to scan down the list a little further....
We have also discussed the fried chicken situation and the consensus seems to be Madtown Fried Chicken on E wash, across from KFC and TB and next to Warehouse Liquors.
I have also had finger-lickin' good chicken at Nick's, Home of Good Food.
It was so good I walked around and licked other people's fingers.

Restaurants closed in the last couple days {2007}

Madtowne Fried Chicken (E. Washington)

It's true.

(thank you, MadMind)

Yes, Jada's is really really good, but don't order it when they're about to close up for the night. It can come out to you drastically undercooked (like, raw in the middle).

Esquire Club on N. Sherman has a very good sunday chicken dinner special. Half a chicken, real mashed potatoes, real dressing, slaw & bread for about $8. For a little more they have all you can eat option.

I was at the Old Fashioned recently and saw they have a similar sunday chicken dinner special but have not tried it. Maybe others have? I think it was in the $13-14 range.

the copps on whitney way has some really good fried chicken, sometimes... it seems they experiment with the breading/batter, with mixed results. it's cheap too, eight pieces for six bucks.

The chicken, at Sentry Hilldale Deli, is pretty nice. The ladies will even pick out the number of burned wings, I love.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Kipp's Down Home Cooking (used to be North American Rotisserie). Right opposite Camp Randall. I think it's got the best chicken in town, the sides are great, and the people are friendly. And they deliver! http://www.narotisserie.com/

Tried Jada's once, but Kipp's was much tastier.

Yeah, Kipp's does have the bomb-ass chicken! With their mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, & cornbread muffin, you have one hell of a meal.

Another place that has absolutely great chicken, but is better known for their ribs, is Smokey Jon's. They smoke their chicken (just like they do with their ribs) and then slow roast it, so it's super flavorful and tender. Their chicken dinner is a nice sized half chicken topped with (not drowning in) Smokey's well known BBQ sauce. It comes with two sides and a roll. I always get the garlic mashed potatoes and corn with the chicken, but the most popular side seems to be the wedge fries since you get so many of them. At $9.95, it's not a bad deal.
