It's true. It's also possible that polyunsaturated oils can be equally harmful.

For anyone interested in alternative dietary methods, I encourage a perusal of a book called Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. Some of it is a little extreme, but a lot of it simply makes sense.

I don't think corn syrup in itself is actually harmful. What I do think is that it has pervaded all of our foods and we overload on it which is harmful. I suspect if it were cane sugar or beet sugar or whatever, it would still be bad for you at 68 pounds per year or whatever the figure is.

What is good for you is eating whole foods that you cook at home. Instead of Oreos (yum) just make some sort of whole-wheat shortbread or something yourself -- still not good for you but better than an Oreo.

I say this hypocritically, of course, as I eat a shelf-stable, packaged Indian lunch.
