Angelo's in McFarland

Postby Pogoagogo » Mon May 21, 2007 11:24 am

Delicious. Looks like a Pizza place outside, cozy and warm inside.
Great food. This weekend the specials were fresh soft shell crabs, a 20oz Ribeye with Parmesan mashed potatos, and snapper with a cilantro curry butter sauce, parm, tomato and basil polenta, and sauteed peppers/snap peas.

When I think of this place I think "Nadias, but less expensive and larger portions". There's a reason for that, the owner/chef used to be the Chef di Cuisine at Nadia's.

Check it out, it's worth the short drive.

From Madison:

Take Stoughton Road into Macfarland. Left at the second light. Angelo's is on the left side right behind the Culvers.

There's no relation between the Angelo's in Monona and the restaurant in McFarland. Menus are totaly different.

Except a common ownership.

Henry,

There is no common ownership. John LaRue owns/operates the restaurant in McFarland. Both restaurants were owned by the same people until last year, with John operating autonomously. He has since taken over the McFarland location completely. Yes, they still share the website and the name, but that's it. Signs are expensive.

No lunch menu. I do suggest the specials though.

Cafe Fiesta Fe in Richland Center is pretty boring. Pretty darn boring Mexican food. It's on a par with Laredo's.
If you want to drive out to Richland Center, it is a nice drive and it is a place to eat -- but don't go there for the Mexican food.

There is a fun Mexican place on the main street in Fort Atkinson -- I don't remember the name of it, but you'll see it. I won't make any claims of it being the best this or that, but it was good.

Oh, I heard that Mexican place in Fort is indeed good. Still can't remember what it's called, though!

Thanks for all the suggestions; keep 'em coming!

There is a great Mexican taco joint in the back of a small market in Janesville near the library on Main St. I don't remember the name but it is worth a try if you are near Janesville. Anyone know the place I'm talking about?

Also, there was a place in Delavan called Hernandez.
As the name implies, also Mexican. I remember it being worth the drive.

Many years ago we used to play at Café Carpe in Fort Atkinson. I haven't been there in ages, but back then it had tasty bar food and was a cozy, friendly spot for singer/songwriter gigs.

The title of this thread made me think of this place

It's in Ackley, Iowa and we used to drive by it several times a year.

Don't know the name of the place near the library. It's on the corner of Main and Racine streets. But if you're in Janesville the Mexican place to go is El Hardin on 51 south. Great food, reasonably priced and not as touristy as Hernandez in Delavan (also good but it's close to Lake Geneva).

If tavern fare is your thing then Wedges on City 14 (Janesville) next to the Riverside golf course has a great (and extensive) sandwich menu. They actually cook turkeys and the burgers are good. And for an great bar burger or just great food in general, Knute's in downtown Orfordville - no fooling around - typical TV sports bar, atypical food at good prices.

The Dining Room in Monticello is my favorite restaurant in the whole area. Not sure why another poster said he never "felt satisfied".

Only thing I would change about it would be the rather strange decor. It needs to be "upscaled" a bit in my opinion.

I love "short distance ... come...eat" (on teepee sign, above)
