An incredibly stupid marketing term.

What's stupid about it? It's a good measure of image resolution.

See? Marketing works.

It only tells you something if you believe all sensors have the same quality/sensitivity and that all lenses are of the same quality.

Without knowing how good the sensor and lens are megapixels tells you nothing about how good the resolution of the camera is. The physical size of the sensor also matters.

It's a fine why to talk about how many millions of pixels are in an image. Unfortunately it tells you nothing about the quality, or if you will, the resolution of the resulting image.

Oh, forget it. I'm out of my league arguing this with a guy that goes by "gargantua".
