Isthmus Mobile Apps

Postby john_titor » Thu Jan 07, 2010 8:32 pm

I think I would find it handy if I could access the event calendar, critics choice, and restaurant reviews on the move.

I also wouldn't mind sponsored links to make it worth your while.

m.isthmus.com

Considering app development, but it's pricey and a moving target right now.

Cool. I looked for mobile in the search site field but got no hits.

Is there no way to make it pay for itself?

What's wrong with a mutually beneficial trade?

We actually pay cash for lots of things (Never let the truth get in the way of firing off a blast, right jb?), and a few regular visitors to this site are clearly aware of that.

Hell, we've even paid cash to Jammy.

Posting on the "Madison Woo-woos" thread, apparently.

Heh - "moving target" sounds about right to me - it doesn't seem worth the money to develop an ap that's more or less just a shiny new toy that'll be abandoned for the newer, shinier toy in a couple weeks.

You kids and your mobile phones!

I visited m.isthmus.com yesterday. Perfect. I do not see a need for an additional interface. One page had everything I asked for. Granted if one is downtown they can usually find a paper copy of The Isthmus, but I am not always downtown. To be able to pull up all the features mentioned above is de luxe!

On a side note, for the sake of discussion: the ability to provide real-time, *good* local content is to me, what will save the independent paper. Anything syndicated will better be provided by the big companies.

I feel, outside of legal and contractual issues, we will move towards the vaunted paperless society. Green issues have taken root in the corporate culture, I think people are becoming more aware of paper "waste". Newspapers shouldn't fear the loss of news on paper.

Check your books.
I've never done any work for Isthmus, nor have I ever been paid by them.

Everytime I've been contacted by your folks for my services it's come with the caveat that any work I did would be in exchange for advertising. That's why I've never done any work for you.

I've also talked to many, many business owners in town as well as former Isthmus sales staff who have confirmed the "advertising trade out" policy is standard operating procedure.

Nice try Jason, but again you've gotten it wrong.

Very first Band to Band Combat. I paid you myself. In cash. That wasn't prize money, it was a percentage of the door. Pretty good gig as I recall.

Trade among media companies is pretty standard, as is the case between media companies and companies likely to be in the market for advertising. As Ned said, what's wrong with a mutually beneficial deal? It's how business has worked for centuries. The truth, of course, is that we seek cash ourselves. You can't pay people with gift certificates.

At the same time, I don't know why I'm treating these jabs sincerely. It's more of the same from a guy who has been bitter for years about God knows what.
