Pardon me, but where's the forum?

Postby Exploding Pinto » Fri May 08, 2009 4:28 pm

Oh no you di'int move the list of the most recent forum posts off the
the tdp homepage!?!

What gives? Trying to class the place up for prospective advertisers?

You say: Simply click the forum link on the right, and up
pop the eight most recent posts!

I say: No, no, no--that's one mouse click too many! GIVE ME BACK MY FORUM (think Mel Gibson a la Ransom)!

Well, this is a big bummer to me and doesn't bode well for the future of the forum.

The TDP was my homepage because:
a.) I like the daily list of shows on top.
b.) I like(d) to see the latest forum posts on the bottom for amusement.

It was all right there in front of you on one page.

The forum was forced upon you, and a clever titled post dared you to resist peeking in. Now the forum hides.

And so, TDP just became less homepage worthy.

I agree. couple that with the fact that Madison Miscellany has been updated perhaps once every 10 days, and TDP is practically static. It's too bad.

Moving Forum into the same box as Popular posts, recent comments and recommendations allows us to free up space on pages I'm told are too "crowded" and it also means Forum posts are accessible on many, many more pages.

Ah, thank you, Jason. Now I see it, I get it, and I like it. last tab over in the popular article box. Nifty. Not entirely apparent, but nifty nonetheless.

I like it now that I figured it out. One thing, you may not pick up as many random or casual forons this way.

The last time I picked up a random casual foron I got a bad rash.

This thread has taken an entirely predictable and funny turn.

I know most people prolly don't give a hoot, but I never would've "found" the forum and used it as much as I have if it was not always "automatically" in my face every time I opened isthmus.com.

For habitual users, isthmus devotees, and herpes simplex three avoiders, the tab thing makes sense. For potential noobs, I'm not so sure.

Good feedback. Thanks.

You might also note that we're running a "This Week on Forum" thing every Friday nowadays.

Bingo!

Furthermore, hyping a local show no longer has the exposure potential it did before. For foron eyes only.

Now about that Madison Miscellany section.... Not that I mind the Bike Walk Madison being hyped for two solid weeks as the third item, but I do miss seeing a constant flow of new and juicy news items and blog links.
