Are you insinuating that I'm shilling for Chili's?

And who do you think you are telling me I'm not me? From reading this forum I understand that you think you know everything but man, this is crazy!

Nice attitude kid.

I'll let my dead mother know that I'm not her son.

I didn't include Chili's because the food isn't of a high enough quality, and it isn't really a 'bar'.

There. I answered your question seriously. Can we move on?

Gee, sorry I'm too "old" and "square" and enjoy Chili's. Maybe I should shed a few years, get some horn rimmed eyeglasses & hip shoes and go out to the Nate Spilt.

TheBookPolice wrote:Here's another little insight for you, spanky. If I'd had more space, I was going to mention how the term has gone from signifying a specific thing, to signifying itself in a (self-)congratulatory way. For example, Madison Magazine's write-up of Erin's Snug Irish Pub calls it a "Gaelic gastropub." I question whether any place that serves spinach and artichoke dip--without a whiff of irony--can be called a "gastropub." And anyway, ain't no gastropub that doesn't pay its liquor license fees on time.

To take my point further, you could have eliminated the first seven paragraphs of your article and included your original subtitle along with the above commentary and would have been a MUCH better piece in my opinion; but, I am no editor and clearly no writer.

Well, the liquor license thing hadn't happened by the time my draft was submitted.

I understand your issues with the Berge section, but they pioneered the gastropub type of restaurant in Madison, and I've chatted with Prentice before. I wanted to include the Berge perspective, and while talking with Christopher or Bregan would have made more sense, I had the "in" with Prentice.

Plus, I didn't want to be accused of taking a shot at Madison Magazine.

Well, at the risk of opening myself to further criticism...

Um.. Chili's is definitely a gastropub.
It's a bar with good food.
I like them southwestern eggroll things.
I just wish it was a good bar.

Eeeeeyew.

I have a dead mother, and I know that the ONLY time it's OK to invoke the Dead Mother Clause is in response to "yo momma."

Pretty fucking tacky, Bob.

Tasty /= good. Not in my book. The eggrolls of which you speak are tasty, but not good.

Huh? Stuff that tastes good isn't?
Snob.
And everyone at Madison Magazine should be shot.

Chili's is a gastropub in the sense that the Hilton is a bed and breakfast.
