An EPIC! Top Ten list

Postby TheBookPolice » Thu Jun 19, 2008 10:35 am

Top Ten phrases that start with "epic":

10) Epic investment

9) Epictetus (Stoics reprezent) (a major influence on another J. Joyce in history, incidentally)

8) Epic change

7) Epic take!

6) EPIC Wood by Grafalloy (it's not what you think)

5) "Epic" by Faith No More

4) Epicac (otherwise known as an epic case of dyslexia)

3) Epic poetry

2) Epicurious (like when you're interested in both meat and vegetables?)

1)Image

And hey, what happened to the Top Ten Articles on the Forum side? Now I can only stroke my fragile ego by actually going over to Daily and, y'know, reading an article. And who wants to do that?

That Grolsch photo, with its "tragic accident" setup, is one of my favorite dumb email jokes ever.

If Isthmus had only published one story on Epic on the Daily, then there would have been room.

What's that at #4? Is that EPICAC, the Kurt Vonnegut story? Or are you cheating and trying to make us believe that's how ipecac is spelled?

Not the TBPIAB! Okay, okay, I fucked up. I actually do know how to spell "ipecac," I just cocked it up. It was some...kind of failure.

But hey, seriously folks...what happened to the Top Ten list? I miss it, even though I'm not on it anymore.

Speaking of Epic, was anybody else surprised at how soft the 2-part article was? I mean, the gist of it was "Epic employes a lot of people" and "They have a big campus in Verona."

Considering what strong opinions the company engenders - based on employees I've spoken to they're either the best place ever or a special circle of hell with little room in between - I was kind of expecting more from the articles. Something unbiased to weed out both the hate-FUD and the marketing buzz. I've tried for ages to get a clear read on them and just haven't been able to.

It'd be interesting, especially in the titular "Madison positioned as an IT market" way to learn how they're adapting for the future with a shifting healthcare market and the entrance of players like Google.

(And...c'mon, "ChunkyGuy from a chatroom" is the best dissenting opinion they could get? There were better comments on the Slashdot article about the KP issues, and that's not saying much)
