Truth be told, Madison wasn't that much better (10,20,30,40) years ago. All it was was different. I was just younger then and that's what made it better.

Agreed - but also with the converse corollary:

I've lived in Madison all my life, and I find it completely reasonable that restaurants/social scene/music scene/traffic patterns/local customs/etc. in other cities and states are just as genuine and valid as here in Madison.
