We have some of the best home brew around. Which is your favorite?

There are two (or more) ways to take the question:

Which brewery has the best beer?
I would vote Tyranena (Lake Mills)

Where do I want to spend time?
Love Great Dane for many reasons: location, food, seating, hours, people.

Where is the best place to just drink?
Capitol has such a great atmosphere with music outside and plenty of space, I gotta vote for them. Don't think New Galrus even has a brew pub, do they?

They've got a brewery, not sure if there is a pub attached like some of the other establishments mentioned. I love their Spotted Cow in the Summertime, very refreshing!

My vote is also for the Great Dane. Partially out of sheer convenience since the downtown location is a block from my work........but also because their Potter's Run is pretty damn good and it's just an all around fun place to hang. Oh yeah, and they have decent food too!

Drinking at which brewery resulted in my tipping over and breaking my hand?

Great Dane.
Scotch Ale.

BluCreek is not in Dane County and real beer does not contain blueberries.

a couple days ago, while trying to miss commercials on the tv news I missed a story on Capital brewery. Something about bad times there or something?? Anyone catch it or know what it was about?

I'm sorry I included New Glarus and Blucreek. My gazetteer was in the car and I went by what was said at breweriesonline.com.

Are there any Dane County Breweries I missed? It's not too late to start a new poll.

I like the downtown Great Dane for atmosphere too, but their beer also is some of the best in town.

JT Whitneys, on the other hand, brews some of the worst swill anywhere.

I agree with Roadkill Bill
Great Dane is consitant with the brews.
Capitol Brewery beer garden is nice but it is seasonal and the assholes in the neighborhood don't make it very fun.
Angelic Bartenders are friendly but very limited menu.
JT Whitney's is whitebread inconsistent but does offer educational programs.

Over all I like Great Dane for location and ambience.

I would vote for the Great Dane because of the quality of the beer, the music and atmosphere. My only complaint is the upstairs bartenders. They generaly seem to have an attitude in the pool hall side. I don't enjoy being negative, but I get a lot of shit from those guys and I am a agreeable person in general.
The downstairs guy that has been there for what seems like years is always solid though.

speaking of the pool hall side bartenders' attitudes, I would certainly agree with you. My sister and brother in law were here from LA last summer and we went in there on a Saturday afternoon. It was REALLY quiet in there, we were practically the only people in the place. So we sat at a booth and got a couple drinks. My bro-in-law goes up to the bar to tell the bartender we want to play pool, had to get the balls or cues or whatever, I don't know. Anyway, the bartender was down at the other end yakking at his girlfriend and completely ignored him. He stood there forever, and was really steaming by the time the bartender FINALLY meandered down to him. So Gerry proceeds to complain and accuses him of age biasis, as he's 50 something and already gray, and demands to see the manager so he can complain to him. So he goes and gets the manager on duty at the time, and he was also barely 21. Needless to say we got nothing but some condescending attitude. The worst part was Gerry demanded we leave before my sister and I finished our wine. Damn.

Wow, thanks. I completely forgot that I used to brew beer.
