Badger Bowl. Weak, over priced drinks. They pay their bands but treat them like crap. Surly crappy bar tenders. They kick every one out well before bar time.

Monkeyshines. I think it's still in Madison and not Fitchburg.

Actually I think it's "Town Of Madison" It's not City, It's not Fitchburg (you can still smoke at the 'Shines). Monkeyshines has a certain irony that makes me end up there at 1AM some nights out. It's good for people watching.

Bourbon Street Grille...although it's in Monona...the place was a lot more fun when it was the Muskie Lounge..now it's poor service, bad food and outside it smells of the sewage pumping station right next door when the wind blows at you! The Come Back Inn has been on a steady decline since the last decade...now you have me thinking...!

I'll nominate Essen Haus/Come Back In. Especially since they started the practice of taking a credit card and opening a $50 tab if you want to have a boot. My friends and I have been stein club members for over 15 years without incident, and now this. Agree with an earlier poster that it seems to be going downhill.

I had a hard time with the question because I like most Madison bars.

I haaaaate the Essen Haus and the CBI. Staff drunker than the patrons; drunken tourist businessmen falling off their stools ten times in a row because they did it once and the other drunks thought it was funny; stale popcorn; sticky floors; amateur night EVERY NIGHT.

At least they have immediate seatnig.

Currently I don't have a "worst" bar but the last time I was in the Horseshoe, a few years ago, it sucked. I'm not a fan of the Laurel but that's probably based on one visit and some smug lower Monroe st. denizens.

Any stadium area bar on a football saturday.

Any bar with live bluegrass.

Historically:
Moguls and Parisi's. Opposite sides of town with the same type of clientele.

Where is your opinion?

I agree with Bourbon St. Grill and Badger Bowl.

Just from playing in bands at these places I would never choose to go there again.

I have a long-standing bitter grudge against the Dry Bean and I consider it the worst in the area because of it.

I don't particularly like the Badger Bowl but I don't hate it like I do the Bean. Same deal with 'Shines, though I haven't been there since a friend moved from that area of Fitchburg several years ago.

I used to hate most of the bars on lower State when I was in college, mainly since my friends always went to these establishments and never got east of Monday's.

Actually, I don't know how I forgot the Bean, especially since I regularly go there for trivia. One server for two full rooms of people eating full meals. Yikes.

And, of course, the KK, although it's in a KINGDOM by itself -- never mind class. I love how its day clientele is almost totally made of ancient emeriti eating a soup and salad special. I went there once many years ago as the last stop on a birthday bar crawl, asked for a White Russian, and was told I had to buy milk separately in its own wee carton. So I did, and after draining that drink I asked for another. They were out of the milk. It was 10 PM on a Friday.
