The Library seems to be doing a nice job in a previously cursed location. They got it right by offering all day service and a pleasant atmosphere in an area of campus with almost no other choices. With Union South gone, the Library seems to be the only place to go for coffee, a sandwich, and a place to have a conversation with a friend or colleague.
Monroe St is a long way to walk from central campus when the weather sucks or your schedule is tight.
I haven't been there yet, but there's a place called the "Java Den" in that new building on Mills St and Johnson. There's a coffee and snack shop in Engr Hall, and another one at Grainger although that's about as far as Monroe st.
I would expect the Library to be a whole lot more conducive to a pleasant chat with a friend than any of those, though. They've got a pretty good BLT. It's got guacamole.
