Here, let me write a solo Lou Reed song for you.

I'm from New York City
I know this guy
He's a total junkie
And his girlfriend turns tricks because she's a junkie too
It's all sooooo craaaaaazy!

I do drugs
and I have all these weird artist friends
They do drugs too
because we all live in New York City

And there's this part of New York City
I used to know people who lived there
They did some drugs
Yes they did
Now they don't live there anymore
So weird, right?
I am important because I do drugs in New York City
Did you know we had cross-dressers here?
So weird, man

It is.

I honestly think a lot of the Butterfield Band being inducted was due to some members playing on Dylan's "bold decision" (aka slick marketing move) to go electric.

Either that or because Bloomfield used to babysit Muddy Waters' grandkids.

By a huge, huge, huuuuuge margin.

The "Rick Nelson in Concert" release is one of my fondest pleasures.

Cheap Trick...one of the most incongruous bills I ever saw was The Dixie Dregs opening for Cheap Trick in a gym at Georgia State University in Atlanta. The Dixie Dregs just smoked Cheap Trick. I mean SMOKED them. I wanna say this was in 1980 but all the years combine...Both of these bands deserve to be in the RnR HOF- then again, what big act doesn't belong in that watered down piece of crap institution?

In April 1977, Cheap Trick opened for the Kinks in Iowa City. I wasn't able to go, but when I asked a Kinks fan who saw the show what the opening act was, he said "I dunno, Bad Joke or something like that." And yeah, they deserve to be in the RRHoF, the Golden Globes of halls of fame.

I saw Cheap trick at the Civic Center in LaCrosse in 1982 for $6. Krokus and Saxon opened for them, my first taste of butt rock. I thought Robin Zander worked the crowd pretty well.

Bonus: Rick Neilson played guitar for the opening act in what would've been Otis Redding's Madison show at The Factory, and was the one who told the crowd Otis wasn't going to make it.

But anyway, here are a few bands that didn't make it...
