I would add that I saw Neil Diamond around the same time and he could sing in tune and was very hard rockin'! Now that was a great rock concert!

Neil Diamond is one of the few rock musicians I have in my CD collection. I also have an ABBA greatest hits CD.

Dylan made the album "Planet Waves" with the Band in 1973, released in 1974, so chances are they were touring with him.

Neil Diamond was also at the famous "The Last Waltz" concert, too bad he was backed by that same dubious group that Dylan was stuck with, The Band.

The Band & Neil Diamond are both from Canada, if memory serves.

Are you telling me that the band = "The Band"?

The group's name was literally THE BAND!

Well that would explain why my then boyfriend's friends were laughing at me. I know they thought that I was somewhat of a "square" but how was I to know that the backing group had such an unoriginal name?

But at least a forty year mystery has now been solved for me. I guess the joke was on me.

Thank you for that.

Yes, that was their little joke.

I love The Band, so I was only kidding about them being of questionable talent. It did take me a couple decades to fully warm up to them.

The Band, mostly Canadian.

Neil Diamond:
"Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays,
I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home,
But it ain't mine no more"

The last rock concert I ever got talked into attending* was in Austin, Texas where I took my first academic job after finishing my dissertation.

It was the late Seventies and my husband (now ex) wanted to see a band called Clash at this warehouse place called Armadillo World. Really! That was the name of the place! I don't remember a lot except I believe they were from Australia. I ended up talking to a colleague who was also with her "significant other" out in the hallway for most of the show.

They also were not that good and I believe they never became that popular. Though my ex seemed to have a good time. We did not share a common taste in music.

*I almost attended a punk rock concert here in Madison in the late eighties with my nephew Noel but I was able to get out of it! Thank god! LOL!

Um "The Clash"? Popular?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Clash

Not that good? Some would have a different opinion: "In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the Clash number 28 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time." I guess "good" is in the eye, or in this case, ear of the beholder.

You have confused Neil Diamond with Gordon Lightfoot. Easily done, I admit.

Or maybe you confused him with Celine Dion. That would be a bit harder, although they are both just as talented.

Lady, you have been to more great concerts by mistake than I have been to by choice! (Though you are older than me by a decade or two and music was better back then.)

I will probably regret asking this but what was the first concert you went to?

You're arguing that "Brown Sugar" is offensive, but not blackface minstrelry.

I am at a "lost" for words ...

"Brown Sugar" is so offensive it should be banned, Neil Diamond was hard rockin' and the Clash never became that popular... either you're Amish, swimming, or you are not for real.
