Huck provides some insight. It's one of those songs you just get up and dance to because it incorporates a lot of call and response between the lyric and the guitar, which provides a blues/gospel effect between the slave woman/heroin (guitar) and the slave owner/junkie (Jaggar). This kind of song structure often leads to great dancing because it gives each partner a chance for mini-breaks and mini-solos . It's really a great song with questionable lyrics.

I think banning songs is about as dumb and unproductive as banning books.

Snowqueen would you have problems with the song if it instead celebrated Nazis raping young Jewish girls in concentration camps?

Perhaps living in China is your style.

Chinese censors restricted the veteran rock star group the Rolling Stones from performing five songs when they made their debut in mainland China on 8 April 2006. Rolling Stones’ lead singer Mick Jagger stated at a press conference in Shanghai that in his opinion this was “not a big deal”.

The five songs that were deemed too risqué for Chinese ears were ‘Brown Sugar’, ‘Honky Tonk Women’, ‘Beast of Burden’, ‘Let’s Spend the Night Together’ and probably also ‘Rough Justice’.

Canada Broadcasting Corporation, CBC – 7 April 2006:
‘China strikes five songs from Stones playlist’

Should every song (book? movie? word?) that some people "have a problem with" be banned for everyone else?

That aside, I'm curious to know what...if any...type of music/bands the person calling for censorship enjoys.

Schubert's art songs are a favorite. Mozart of course. Pretty much all classical music. When I want to let my hair down I like on the pop side some show tunes.

You people should be ashamed for liking and defending dispicable songs that celebrate raping African slave girls. I am at a lost for words.

When the Stones were on the Ed Sullivan Show, he had them sing "Let's Spend Some Time Together."

Art that explores the dark side is not necessarily endorsing ugly behavior.

Would you ban Carivaggio?

Even the stuff that was banned/censored?

That aside...just to clarify: when you say this (or any other) song needs to be "banned" you are talking about making it illegal, under punishment of law, to own a copy of the song...correct?

And, also to clarify, are you posting from outside of the United States or within?

Or maybe tell us where you agree or disagree with this list of banned books. And why.

Lil' bit of a difference between the two situations.

For example, I would be against any school receiving public funding calling themselves "The Brown Sugars" with a slaver whipping a girl as their mascot. I would also be against a ban on musicians/artists dressing up as Native Americans, ie the Village People.

Can ya grok the difference?

I think they sang the lyric correctly, then never got invited back on the show.

Or am I thinking of a different group? Some group kept Ed pissed off for the rest of his life.

Maybe it was the Byrds and some drug use reference on "8 miles high" or something.

Edit: it was the Doors, who promised to change the lyric "Girl, we couldn't get much higher", then double-crossed Eddy
